Thank you for the reply, but I don't think you have diagnosed the source of the problem. I previously used ZTree under Windows XP without having this problem. I made a search for a DOC.BAT or DOCX.BAT but couldn't find one (I never intended to use one but I considered whether one might be present without my knowledge - it doesn't seem to be the case). The fact that the problem occurs when I open a .DOC or .DOCX file with ZTree but not when I open it with My Computer seems to suggest that I need to change my ZTree configuration, but I don't know what to change.
