Oh, I'm hoping!

I've tried all those protocol methods, but the transfer speeds
were all so slow! like 3 MB/s, as compared to 25 MB/s on a
direct USB connection. Its painful. And directory logging is
even worse.

What speeds do you see when using your ftp method?

When I transfer files they tend to be quite large, whether its
rom files or hd video files or other large work related files.

Lol, two tablets? And I do like Android very much as well :-)
I had read that the Galaxy S and S2 both mounted usb just fine when on Jelly Bean.

From what I understand, one reason for the MTP only transfer mode is
to remove the need to mount or dismount your SD cards on the phone,
which had issues with open or locked files.

And I must say, the MTP method is much easier and quicker, as far as
hooking your device to your computer. You don't have to do anything
on the phone -- it just works. But if only it had a drive letter!

Yep, that's what I'd be doing too, if only it worked that way now! Grrr...

Haha, me too. I just got some of my family to start reading on (Android!) devices.
