Some years ago I started looking after becoming frustrated by Micro$oft, but found little.
I made a .deb of UnixTree for Debian/Ubuntu which can be found on http://binnie.id.au/Downloads/
I had visions of enhancing this, but found the code too convoluted.
Later I wrote a gtk+ program to explore the concepts. See http://www.ztw3.com/forum/forum_entry.php?id=109418
GTree has limited functionality, and was intended as a prototype but does work. I realised the approach I had followed was limited, and further development would require a different approach to avoid performance issues.
Not long after I became disillusioned with Ubuntu (due to their adoption of Unity) and moved to OSX, where I developed a full File Manager QuollEyeTree.
