With cloud drives such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive presumably when the malware encrypts the files it then deletes the originals so the cloud drive would keep a "recycle bin" copy of the original files that could be recovered or is the malware "smart" enough to know how to delete the cloud drive backups?
