Whoops, I was forgetting about those single letter expansions, Upper case your variables, or double percent.

Working for me on the command line, or from an F9 item, this commandline from inside of ZTree
start "" "%#ZTStartMenu%\Programs\_Accessories\ZTW64.lnk"
I have used that technique from outside of ZTree for years to make the ZTree have the required icon, instead of the cmd one, as I launch from cmd script.
Not sure why it's not working for you.
Have you tried selecting one of the .ico files?
Is your shortcut launching the ZTree exe or a cmd script?
