That's a good point, and using only the Treespec history items should leave your current view just the way it is, without expanding anything, or jumping you out of file or branch mode.
I'd go for a ZEP, and it could be as simple as ZTree not changing the current view unless you start editing or navigating within Treespec mode. If you only use a history item (or its ctrl-% or alt-% shortcut) or an F6 Windows folder as your destination, then it wouldn't change your current view mode on either the origin or the destination side.
