Yes.

I see why we're getting different behaviour. I've got just a short string in my paste buffer (something I'd like to add to the end of the displayed path). If I have a full path in there, it replaces the entire path like it does for you.
Can you try it with, say, just "aaa" in your paste buffer? Does it remove another part of the path with each control+V now? Can you see a logical reason for that?

I meant Backspace. True, one needs to be able to delete characters one adds as one navigates by typing parts of directory names, and it would be odd to prevent it deleting beyond the starting point.
