I use double spaces for my jazz mp3s:
year__artist(s)__title

eg
1956__Brown Roach Rollins__What Is This Thing Called Love

In ZTree and other displays using monospaced fonts this keeps the information nicely separate. Unfortunately this web page also contracts double spaces, so I'm using _ to replace the spaces.

I think that's the same reason Ryan uses them.
