Do you mean you're using them to keep "fields" of information in lots of filenames aligned? I do that too, but tend to use zeros or dashes.

If Megasync drops them, perhaps it would be worth changing them to dashes or something. Ztree can do that kind of replacement.

I don't understand the Basic compiler analogy.
