You probably mean

dir /a-d "<sh<.*"

(The forum accepts raw HTML, more or less, so you have to escape < (less than) as &lt;, otherwise the browser will see "<" as the start of a new HTML tag, causing it to ignore everything until the next ">" (usually the end of the <BR> at the end of the line).
Also, keep in mind that the forum's preview function will translate &lt; to <; after which pressing [Submit] from the preview page will still go wrong. When posting on this forum, I routinely do Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, [Preview], Ctrl+V, so as to make sure I post the same text/code to the preview page as to the definitive post).
