Have you tried using a Relative type Mirror to see if it helps the issue? Basically browse as far down into the branch as you can, on both panes of ZTree.

As a workaround, you could create a symlink for the too-long folder/branch, putting it somewhere higher up in the tree, which would effectively shorten the total path length that ZTree sees. This article has a few methods for doing this.
