As to serious examples, what about replacing all '-' to '_', getting rid of 8-bit chars, and, the most frequent 'SPACE' to '_' in both parts?

However, doing it twice

cmd_for_name | cmd_for_ext

would be just as easy, obvious and clean, rather than adding the notion of BOTH to the language, IMO.

I vote for totally separating the name from the extension, unless there is something big we lose this way.
