No, just that the default Windows setting is NOT to show extensions. I often have to help users here because when they have several files with the same name but different extension. e.g they may try to open a Word document in Excel. Or they may overwrite a file of the wrong type like you did, irrespective of whether it has a little picture or not. Unlike you there is very little chance they'll understand how it happened. I think it's a dumb default.
