I think it's a dumb concept, let alone default, and should not be allowed. It's as stupid as spaces.

But M$ seems to delight in hiding important info by default. A user doesn't need to know what type of file he's using, just as long as the files can be found in "My Documents", ALL 10000 of them, without extensions. That's a great idea?
