More or less what I was saying, just in different words (but, yours is the official one ;-)

I do, however, think it is a useful "feature", and I would, in the long run, like to see support for the situation I outlined in the "related issue" posting -- Being able to copy a bunch of files down a level (with directory creation) would be quite useful in code development contexts.

Sorry if I opened a can-o-worms with my "cleverness". I was just trying to figure out a way to defer the evaluation of the .. and this is what came to mind (let's not discuss how eveil it is...;-)
