You should try VIM: it has syntax highlighting (configurable and it comes with syntax files for almost all programming languages), keyboard remapping, it can be configured to work using windows standards (CTRL-C to copy ...), it's FREE and open source, it is very fast and small, it has a great user community, it has been compiled for almost any OS, and many features more. Check it at www.vim.org.
