But to me it looks as if your v1.72 has only 3 characters for the extension while your 2.06 version has 8. If you look at the character that is aligned with the extension dot you see that the name part is 5 characters shorter in 2.06 while the extension is that 5 characters longer.

Can you change the extension width with Shift+Left/Right? I am quite sure you would be able to achieve the same layout with 2.06 by narrowing down the extension column width.

Unfortunately not. This reuse of the extension column for the name (if no extension exists) already existed in older versions.
