Why does this matter? If I use Ctrl+F7/F8 I expect it to work on the directory and all its subdirectories independend from the context it is displayed in. I often don't see the full branch in tree window either, for example when subdirectories are collapsed with F5/F6. Alt+(Un)tag/Branch from file mode works on subdirectories too without the tree being visible. For me it would be very intuitive to have Ctrl+F7/F8 available in a flat directory list. Nothing new to learn, it would be straight forward.

Well, Ctrl+F7/F8 should (un)tag all directories in the whole branch below the current directory (including the root directory itself). That would be exactly the same as from tree window. This can affect non-visible directories too. In contrast, Ctrl+Tag/Untag only apply to the current list of directories (same as it works for files now).

Sure.

> Would these proposed Alt-(Un)Tag commands available in the Tree window?

That needs to be discussed. For now I don't see a need for it because the list of tagged directories in the tree window would be the same as the list after ctrl+showall. So it's available from there too. On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to be consistent and allow it from the tree window too.

> Would all files be tagged regardless of any active file Filter?

I think yes. It would become much too complicated to consider this. There is always the option to go back to file mode and (un)tag files by filter in an extra step.
