Hmmm, not so sure, testing now...

I'm now looking at files in F7 mode. I can glance up and see
the file info on top effortlessly. My eyes drop down to where
I was in the text easily; simple vertical eye movement. I notice
that I can almost see the first few lines of text and the
file size part at the same time, no effort.

I'm now watching the Line value on the right as I zoom through files.
If I imagine the file info there, all the way to the right, I would
almost need to turn my head to the right. Yes, glancing all the way to the
right works, but is noticeably less comfortable, and returning
to viewed text's last position is not so instant for me, maybe
because the eye movement is diagonal, and the path traveled longer?

This would need to be tested to see what is more efficient vs
estethically pleasing. YACO time?

I have a feeling that there will be users who would want to make
this info as discrete and invisible as possible, and others -- me,
to have it as intrusive as possible, and as close to the
I'm viewing as possible. :-)

That's why it's evolving to a toggle.

Note that I always use ZTree in full screen, typically 160 columns.
So, less eye travel is better.
