It's not a UNC, it's the Unicode API syntax.
You misunderstand the inner working of reparse points possibly.
The \\?\d:\ and \\?\UNC\server\share\ path prefixes indicate that the upper API's should be skipped and the string should be passed directly to the file systems API's.
Mostly that is used to access files with paths longer than MAX_PATH (260).
If something needs the upper API level processing, then the application will need to be updated.

Treespec F8 to handle, where possible Unicode destinations.
