>How about an F key macro
that IS F12

>without having to log it first?
logging 0.5 million files in NTFS takes about 3 minutes
if NTFS, in my experience, log it 1st to put them on cache ready, or it may be too slow for any operations if not
because NTFS works with indexing, this indexing must be loaded and free.

besides all rename ztree operations must logged and tagged, if not single.

--------------------------------------------------------------
condition : alt+F10 config page 2, R must be set to No

preparation :
WHILE_NOT_END,ENTER,STOP_IF_DW,CTRL_t,CTRL_r,CTRL_BKSP,:%6:_:01:.*,ENTER,ENTER,DOWN,SLEEP

put this macro in a file and give it a name aaa.ztm and put it in c:\ztree
use the macro aaa.ztm once
use F12 and press a UP-arrow key and press CTRL-J on aaa.ZTM
--------------------------------------------------------------

how to use
1. put your ztree cursor over the directory that has many sub directories then press * to log
2. make zzzzz dir name at the end with no files in it
3. F12
4. @aaa.ztm

or

1. put your ztree cursor over the directory that has many sub directories then press * to log
2. make zzzzz dir name at the end with no files in it
3. F12
4. ALT+J

you are down to only 3 essential key presses (* F12 ALT+J) if you dont delete zzzzz for a future purpose

--------------------------------------------------------------
WHILE_NOT_END,ENTER,STOP_IF_DW,CTRL_t,CTRL_r,CTRL_BKSP,:%6:_:01:.*,ENTER,ENTER,DOWN,SLEEP
you can try it for a while and once you are ok with it then can remove SLEEP to speed things up

it will be like this
WHILE_NOT_END,ENTER,STOP_IF_DW,CTRL_t,CTRL_r,CTRL_BKSP,:%6:_:01:.*,ENTER,ENTER,DOWN

malfunction of rename :%6:_:01:.* is destructive
malfunction of del /q /s %A1% is destructive when %A1% is NOT claimed
