The current behaviour of the files being incremented as one flat list is what people expect, the least the :%6: part is working.

Maybe a :: modifier prefix like the decrement and increment ones *<_:1d06:>.*, *<_:2i00:>.*.

Possibly r for reset, or f for per folder, which would give you what you are asking for.
:%6:_:r01:.*


But this doesn’t work, the 2i is ignored, I guess because of the multiple insertion parts, so the reset might not work if there are multiple insertion parts
:%6:_:2i06:.*
